What to Expect
The route is flanked by the Indian Ocean on one side and the mountainous terrains of the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountains on the other, creating a rich mix of natural wonders. The coastal stretches offer breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean, with rugged cliffs that give way to golden beaches and secluded coves.
Upon arrival at Cape Town airport, you’ll clear customs and immigration before meeting your guide in the arrivals hall. From there, you’ll depart for a city orientation tour, followed by check-in at your hotel. After some leisure time, you’ll prepare for dinner.
This evening, dinner is at Gold Restaurant, where your experience begins with an interactive African drumming session. You’ll then enjoy a variety of African dishes accompanied by live entertainment.
After breakfast, your guide meets you in the hotel lobby for a full-day Cape Point tour. The journey begins with a drive through the affluent suburbs of Camps Bay and Llandudno, leading to the coastal town of Hout Bay. Here, you’ll embark on a 45-minute cruise to Seal Island. After returning to the mainland, the tour continues along the stunning Chapman’s Peak Drive en route to Simon’s Town and Boulders Beach.
At Boulders Penguin Colony, you’ll have the unique opportunity to observe penguins in their natural habitat. You’ll also have free time to explore the historic Simon’s Town, known for its charming antique stores.
Next, a short drive brings you to Cape Point, where you’ll enjoy lunch at the renowned Two Oceans Restaurant. Afterward, you’ll take a funicular ride to the top of Cape Point, with time to explore and take in the views. Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope are often considered the meeting point of two great oceans.
In the late afternoon, you’ll return to your hotel. Dinner this evening will be at a local restaurant, such as Baia or a similar venue.
A short drive from the city takes you into the picturesque and historic Cape Winelands. Your first stop is Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in South Africa. Your guide will lead a tour of this charming town, sharing its rich history and hidden gems. You’ll also have free time to explore its many antique shops and art galleries.
Just outside Stellenbosch, you’ll visit a renowned wine estate for a delightful wine tasting, followed by a relaxing lunch. Afterward, you’ll return to the city for a visit to the iconic Table Mountain. Ride the revolving cable car to the summit, where you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Cape Town and the Peninsula (weather permitting).
Upon your return to the hotel, you’ll have some time to prepare for dinner. This evening’s dinner will be at a local restaurant, such as Pigalle or a similar venue.
Depart early from the hotel for Hermanus, heading straight to the harbor for tea, coffee, snacks, and a safety briefing.
Embark on an exhilarating shark cage diving adventure, where you’ll have the chance to encounter various shark species in their natural habitat. The dives take place at different spots in the bay, depending on shark activity. Due to the declining numbers of great white sharks, sightings in Shark Alley have become rare. After the dive, you’ll return to the mainland for lunch at a local restaurant, such as Bientang’s Cave or a similar venue.
Following lunch, you’ll check into your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Dinner this evening will be at your own expense.
After an early breakfast at the hotel, you’ll depart Hermanus and head to the coastal town of Mossel Bay. Taking the scenic coastal route, you’ll stop at Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of the African continent. Here, you can capture some memorable photos at the continent’s tip and perhaps enjoy a drink at the southernmost restaurant.
The journey continues through Swellendam, where you’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant, before proceeding to Mossel Bay. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the Diaz Museum, followed by check-in at your hotel. The rest of the day will be at your leisure.
After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll depart for Knysna, located in the heart of the Garden Route. Along the way, you’ll pass through the towns of George and Wilderness, with a brief stop in Sedgefield before arriving in Knysna. Upon arrival, you’ll head to the harbor for the Featherbed Eco Experience, which includes lunch.
Afterward, you’ll return to the mainland and check in at your hotel. The rest of the afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure. Dinner will be at a local restaurant.
After a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, you’ll depart for Plettenberg Bay to visit Monkeyland and Birds of Eden. Monkeyland is the world’s first free-roaming multi-species primate sanctuary, dedicated to educating visitors and fostering a deeper understanding of primates.
Birds of Eden features a unique two-hectare dome—the largest in the world—covering a gorge of indigenous forest. It is home to over 3,500 birds from more than 220 species, with a primary focus on African birds.
Lunch will be at your own expense at one of the many beachfront restaurants in Plettenberg Bay. Afterward, you’ll visit the Tsitsikamma Forest to see the famous Big Tree and enjoy a walk through the Tsitsikamma Nature Reserve, known for its iconic suspension bridge. You’ll return to the hotel in the late afternoon, with time to prepare for dinner. Dinner will be at a local restaurant.
Today, we bid farewell to the Garden Route and journey into the Klein Karoo as we begin our return to Cape Town.
The drive from Knysna to the historic town of Oudtshoorn takes about two hours. Upon arrival around midday, our first stop is the Safari Ostrich Farm, where you’ll enjoy a tractor tour and learn about these fascinating flightless birds and their many benefits.
Next, we’ll visit ‘Die Smitswinkel,’ a quirky restaurant just outside town, for lunch. Afterward, we’ll explore the Cango Caves on the Heritage Tour. For those seeking more excitement, there’s an option to upgrade to the Adventure Tour (at your own expense).
In the late afternoon, we’ll check in at the hotel, and the rest of the day will be yours to spend at leisure.
After a leisurely breakfast, we depart Oudtshoorn and travel through the scenic Klein Karoo on our way back to Cape Town.
Along the route, we’ll visit a few wine and port distilleries, enjoying at least two tastings. We’ll stop for a quick lunch at Diesel and Dust, and to break up the journey, we’ll also visit Platform 62 before arriving in Cape Town in the late afternoon.
